| John Campbell is a young painter who is forging ahead in a new direction for Jamaican artists and breaking out of the mold of the island’s typical themes and styles. His work plays tag between surrealism, psychological realism, and a style that he refers to as ‘Fantastic Realism’.
John Campbell’s exhibition of new works recently opened at Red Bones in New Kingston, Jamaica W.I.. The exhibition runs until the end of the year.
Campbell’s newest collection varies from his usual large textured oil on burlap paintings to smaller watercolour, chalk pastel and ink pieces. They speak to John’s struggle to maintain his idealism as an artist as well as his renewed faith in his abilities.
“The cynical humour in my ink and watercolour drawings have allowed me to express another side through my art.” |
